If the fuel injectors do not pump the same quantity of gasoline into each cylinder, the engine does not provide maximum output or the engine might be affected in extreme circumstances. If one or many injectors do not provide so much fuel as the others, the optimal stoichiometric mix will not be available for all cylinders.

Computer engines regulate the fuel mix on all cylinders and, if some are heavy, others operate sluggishly. Leaks may be detected by spraying starting fluid after each injection, and if an air leak occurs between the injector and the head, the engine idles increase immediately after the spray and goes back to normal a few seconds after the spraying.

I know of no fuel injectors which need to be calibrated save for the newer version with the fuel pump on top of the solenoid valves on the common rail concept. Even in these circumstances, the fuel pump is calibrated instead of the injector, which, when pressurized, is only an easy tool to inject gasoline.
